Luis Torruella

Puerto Rico


Luis Torruella is one of the pioneers of contemporary monumental sculpture on the island. He exhibited in United States, Europe, and Far East.

He was born on December 20, 1966 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Once finished with his university studies at Amherst, MA in 1988, he continued his education in the United States. He trained in a foundry of metals and also as a sculptor’s assistant.

He returned to Puerto Rico to become one of the pioneers of contemporary monumental sculpture on the island. Nowadays, he collaborates with architects, developers, and art institutions for the development of art. In addition, he displays his work in several museums, inside and outside of Puerto Rico. He has also taken his art to foreign countries like the United States, Europe, and the Far East, such as the Expo of Sevilla 1992 and an individual exhibition in Moscow. At the moment, he offers conferences in the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, participates in international art fairs, and continues evolving his style and technique to set an innovative pace in the international sculpture scene.
